Frequently asked questions
Where do the prices come from?
From CoinLore. Euro prices are converted from the US dollar price using the European Central Bank reference rate. The app always shows the source and time of the price.
How long does an observation run?
As long as you set it. You can extend it or let it extend automatically. Apple limits a single Live Activity to 8 hours; after that, Bitcoin Island automatically starts a new one where iOS allows it.
How often does the price update?
About every minute, in the app and in the background via push from our update service.
Why does the Lock Screen sometimes say “Update delayed”?
While the app is closed, iOS decides when new prices appear on the Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island. Apple limits how often an app may update its Live Activity in the background and delays updates, for example in Low Power Mode or after many updates. If no new price arrives for a while, Bitcoin Island shows “Update delayed” and the age of the price instead of presenting an old price as current.
When you open the app, it loads the current price right away and tells you what caused the delay. For the most regular updates, turn on “More Frequent Updates” in iPhone Settings under Bitcoin Island › Live Activities.
Which iPhones are supported?
Bitcoin Island requires iOS 18 or later. The Dynamic Island is available on iPhone 14 Pro and later. On iPhones without a Dynamic Island, the price appears on the Lock Screen.
Do I need an account?
No. Bitcoin Island works without sign-up, name or email address. There are no ads and no tracking.
Is Pro a subscription?
No. Pro is a one-time purchase through the App Store. There are no recurring costs.
I already bought Pro, but it isn't unlocked.
Open the Pro screen in the app and tap “Restore”. Use the same Apple Account you bought it with. If that doesn't help, email us (see below), but please don't include receipts or payment details.
Can I buy or sell Bitcoin with Bitcoin Island?
No. Bitcoin Island only shows the price. It is not investment or financial advice, and the prices shown are not a basis for trading decisions.
